Space Defender?
Hey Gamers, welcome to my project! I started this awhile ago when I was bored at work, and it has evolved into video game that I have used to teach myself Unity. Currently the project is in a prototype state with a core gameplay loop, but missing quality visuals, audio, and polish.
Game Objective: Protect the buildings on your planets from falling asteroids and alien enemies seeking to destroy them. Create new buildings when they get destroyed, and upgrade them to help defend your planets. The game ends when you have less than 3 habitat buildings remaining. The goal is to score the highest amount of points before your habitats are completely destroyed.
Controls
Movement
WASD: Jetpack → forward, left, back, right
Space: Jump and Jetpack → up
Left Ctrl: Jetpack → down
Key Q: Barrel Roll Counter-clockwise
Key E: Barrel Roll Clockwise
Weapons
Key 1: Select Weapon Standard laser
Key 2: Select Weapon Laser Blast
Key 3: Select Weapon Guided Missile
Right Click: Lock onto target nearest to your cross hair (guided missile only)
Left Click: Fire weapon or building capsule
Other Key Binds
Key 4: Holding key opens capsule select menu. Left click on button to choose capsule for launch
Key B: Opens the buy menu. Buy menu also contains start next level button
Key R: Reload laser blast
TAB: Holding key provides building summary
Asteroids
- Plane Jane: Gray asteroid that go zoom and then boom.
- Dark Doom: Black asteroid that is dark in color and more difficult to see.
- Bopper: Green asteroid that will occasionally change direction.
Enemies
- Zoomers: Red spaceships that fly around the planets and drop bombs on your buildings.
- Chasers: Blue spaceships that swarm around the player and shoot guided missiles at the player.
- Planet Walker: Yellow cylinders that land on the planet surfaces and walk around destroying buildings and growing in size.
Buildings
Buildings all start with a base health stat of 2. When buildings are struck by asteroids or zoomer bombs, the building will take 2 damage. If an asteroid lands in the vicinity of a building it will take 1 damage. Mini asteroids and debris deal 1 damage to buildings when they hit the building directly. All buildings can have their health stat upgraded in the buy menu.
Building Types
- Habitat: Game requires 3 habitats at all times for the game to continue. Habitats can be upgraded to have a percentage chance of creating a new habitat after a level finishes.
- Laser Defender: Shoots asteroids, mini asteroids, debris, and zoomer bombs if they enter the field of view directly above the building. Can be upgraded to have shorter reload times.
- Pizza Shop: Provides bonus currency at the end of each round to the player. Can be upgraded to provide additional sums of currency each round.
